Support Groups-Grief and Loss for Johnson County

Compassionate Friends is a national nonprofit, self-help support organization that offers friendship and understanding to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings. There is no religious affiliation and there are no membership dues or fees. The group is run by "seasoned grievers" who reach out to the newly bereaved. National website includes link to chat room and online brochure for siblings.

A national website with over 50 facilitated e-mail support groups covering topics such as loss of a parent, loss of a spouse/partner, loss of sibling or friend, spiritual aspects of loss, etc. Each topic has subtopics, such as young widowed, widowed with children, grief moving on, etc. Enjoy the flexibility of 24 hour a day, 7 day a week access. Some people often find the anonymity of an internet support group more healing.

Iowa City Hospice has been committed to community education since our inception. Our volunteer speakers bureau is available, free of charge, to churches, service clubs, associations, council meetings, businesses and other community groups. Speakers can address a variety of end-of-life topics, including hospice care, grief support, and volunteering at Iowa City Hospice.

With the proper training and tools, a blind person can succeed just like any sighted person. The blind person might simply accomplish the goal in an alternative way.  The Iowa Department for the Blind helps educate, train and empower blind and visually impaired individuals to pursue lifelong goals.  Through the website, PSAs, brochures and Media Kits can be ordered.
