Includes programs for low-income home owners as well as renters.
Sponsored by the National Resource Center on Supportive Housing and Home Modification (a project of the University of Southern California), this website maintains a state-by-state directory of governmental home repair programs and individual contractors who have registered as specializing in home modifications for the elderly and disabled.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Weatherization Assistance Program enables low-income families to permanently reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. On average, weatherization reduces heating bills by 31% and overall energy bills by $358 per year at current prices. If you receive Supplemental Security Income or Aid to Families with Dependent Children, you are automatically eligible to receive weatherization services.
