First Call For Help, is a general and basic needs Info-Line that can assist you in finding your community resources. This comprehensive Information & Referral Service is provided by United Way of Southwest Michigan.

Providing support to seniors with the senior millage.

COA volunteers provide transportation to out-of-county medical appointments. Wheelchair accessible van is available as needed. Call for more information. Hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Perhaps the most useful site for a long distance caregiver, the Eldercare Locator is a national service to assist people in finding the Area Agency on Aging unit for specific geographical regions (based on zip code). Enter your care receiver’s zip code and they will give you the information and referral service number for that region. The local people can talk to you about your care receiver’s needs and programs available to help. They may also know of care management programs in the community so the person you care for can get an in-person assessment. It may take the local Information and Referral Service a few days to return your call (they get lots of calls in a day), but it’s worth the wait. We provide volunteer opportunities for seniors at various senior centers in our area. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Our information and assistance specialist and options counselors provide unbiased assistance to individuals and families in locating, learning about, and accessing long-term care options, care settings, housing and other supportive services. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with 24 hour on-call availability.
