The Area Agency on Aging Region IIIA provides leadership and advocacy regarding aging issues on behalf of older persons in Kalamazoo County and funding for a network of in-home and community support services. The main goal is to provide quality services, primarily by contracting with local service providers, that enable older persons to continue living independently in their own homes or chosen places of residence, for as long as possible. Persons age 60 and older, or their caregivers, are eligible to receive Older Americans Act and Older Michiganians Act services regardless of their income or assets, although emphasis is placed on helping older adults who have the greatest economic or social need. Services may be at no cost or on a sliding fee scale, depending on the program.
