In response to an identified need, Napa Valley Hospice opened its doors as a program of St. Helena Hospital’s Home Health department on May 14, 1979.
A partnership was created in 1995 between St. Helena Hospital and Queen of the Valley Hospital, the two local non-profit community hospitals, to better serve the needs of the entire Napa Valley community, and the Hospice program moved from St. Helena to Napa.
In 1997, Hospice became incorporated as an independent non-profit entity. The corporation obtained its own hospice license from the State of California and Medicare certification from the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA).
In 1998, in response to an unmet community need, Napa Valley Hospice opened the community’s only licensed Adult Day Health Center. In 1999, competitive funding was received from the Area Agency on Aging serving Napa and Solano Counties to establish an Alzheimer’s Day Care Resource Center (ADCRC). In 2002, Garden Haven Adult Day Services was integrated into the ADCRC program– this expanded the continuum of care at one location for persons with early to late stage Alzheimer’s disease. In 2008, the name of the agency was changed to Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services to better describe our multi-program services.
